A cleaning method of an image forming apparatus, and an image forming method are provided to prevent a loss of an image without additionally installing any special mechanical device, introducing an additional fabrication process, or increasing a fabrication unit cost. A uniform surface potential is formed on a photosensitive medium by a charging member(S10), and an electrostatic latent image is formed on the photosensitive medium(S11). A developer is attached on the electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive medium to develop the electrostatic latent image(S12). A voltage with the opposite polarity to that of the developer is applied to a transfer member to transfer a visible image on paper(S13). The developer remaining on the photosensitive medium is removed(S14). The developer transferred on the paper is fixed on the paper by a heating roller and a pressing roller(S15). The current number of printed sheets of paper is counted(S16). It is checked whether the current number of printed sheets of paper reaches a reference number(S17). If the current number of printed sheets of paper reaches the certain reference number, the second cleaning stage is performed(S18). After the second cleaning stage is terminated, the current number of printed sheets of paper is initialized(S19).
