PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for treating diabetic cataract, exhibiting effective activity for delaying the progression of the diabetic cataract. SOLUTION: The agent for treating the diabetic cataract contains an antioxidant drug for inhibiting the oxidation damage of the retina as an active ingredient. The agent for treating the diabetic cataract containing a phenylazole compound having a specific structure or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient is cited as the agent. It is cleared that the antioxidant having NO radical-scavenging activity and high transferability to the retina exhibits effective anti-diabetic cataract activity, and the new treating means of the cataract the medicinal treatment of which has been considered difficult is provided.
