PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the display time of a frame from, having discontinuity and movement from being viewed unnatural, for example, from clattering, when displaying an input video signal subjected to processing with a 2-3 pull-down system. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a 2-3 pull-down reference signal detection means which detects whether an input video signal is a video signal subjected to 2-3 pull-down processing, and outputs a 2-3 pull-down reference signal to specify the position of a start frame, if the signal is the video signal subjected to the 2-3 pull-down processing, and to specify the period of the start frame as high and the period of the other frames as low; a reset pulse generation means which creates a reset pulse signal, indicating the start point of a 5 frame sequence on the basis of the 2-3 pull-down reference signal; a PWM pulse generation means which generates the PWM pulse, on the basis of the reset pulse signal; a delay means which delays the PWM pulse means; and a backlight which lights or puts out the light on the basis of the PWM pulse delayed by the delay means.
