PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbon binder having an excellent binder adhesivity under a temperature change (heat shock test) in which a high-temperature preservation especially at≥50°C and a low-temperature preservation at≤0°C are repeatedly carried out. SOLUTION: The carbon binder comprises a polymer (I) obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer containing a conjugated diene-based compound (a), an aromatic vinyl-based compound (b) and an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid-based compound (c) and an antioxidant (II). The carbon binder having improved binder adhesivity to an electrode under a temperature change (heat shock test) in which a high-temperature preservation and a low-temperature preservation are repeatedly carried out is obtained from the polymer (I) produced by an emulsion polymerization using≤0.5 wt.% of an emulsifying agent based on the solid content of the polymerizable monomer.
