PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide food or drink usable as original food or drink through ingesting in an ordinary life for a long period without spoiling the original flavor of the food or drink, and at the same time, enabling retention of health through preventing occurrence of the cause of life style diseases such as hyperlipemia, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, thrombosis, and hepatitis.

SOLUTION: The food or drink contains a specific amount of 5-hydroxymethyl furfural or 5-hydroxymethyl-furan-2-carboxylic acid. A method for producing the food or drink which contain a specific amount of 5-hydroxymethyl furfural comprises heating food or drink containing hexose or sucrose in the presence of organic acid.
