PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication apparatus capable of authenticating a device to be authenticated, without having a connection terminal exclusively for authentication, and of reducing the risk that falsifying the device to be authenticated becomes easy; a device to be authenticated; and a battery authentication system. SOLUTION: When a communication part 28 is made to make communication for purposes other than an authentication process, a changeover switch 23 is used to connect a connection terminal 203 with the communication part 28 and communication is made by the communication part 28 using connection terminals 202, 203. When the process for authenticating a battery pack 3 is performed using an authentication IC 22, the changeover switch 23 is used to connect the connection terminal 203 with the authentication IC 22 and communication is made by the authentication IC 22 via the connection terminal 203 to perform the authentication process; also, a signal for camouflage is output by the communication part 28 to the connection terminal 202.
