PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone device that sends a holding tone appropriate according to an intended party if the party is a specific party such as a vital customer, thereby to make it possible to reduce discomfort feeling in which the party is made to await for a long time. SOLUTION: The telephone device includes: storage means F46 for storing holding tone information corresponding to telephone numbers; acquiring means F44 for acquiring a telephone number of a party by a start of a call; sending means F45 for extracting corresponding holding tone information on the basis of the telephone number acquired by the acquiring means F44 when on-hold and sending holding tone according to the holding tone information to the party; detecting means F48 for detecting a holding tone selection signal from the party during the on-hold; updating means F49 for updating holding tone information stored on the basis of the selected signal if the detecting means F48 detect the holding tone selection signal; and sending means F45 for sending a holding tone according to the holding tone information to an intended party.
