PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic recognition and setting device for a disk drive capable of automatically recognizing and re-setting the erroneous connection of a cable or erroneous routing setting when the connection or setting is erroneously made. SOLUTION: A controller requests Discover processing to an Expander concerning respective physical layers (phy). The controller obtains the information of a device connected to the Expander from a response to the Discover processing, and also determines the kind of a method for routing a signal passing object phy. It is determined whether the routing setting is right or not based on routing setting information obtained from the response to the Discover processing. When the setting is erroneously made, the change command of the routing method is transmitted.
