PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely learn an L-range-side limit position (L-range wall position), in a motor-driven range changeover control system having a plurality of running ranges (a D range, an L range and the like). SOLUTION: After starting a system (after power is turned on), an L-range wall hitting control is executed to learn the L-range wall position when a target range is changed over to one of running ranges such as a D range, 2 range and L range; a play amount of a rotation transmission system is learnt based on the learning value of a P-range wall position and a learning value of the L-range wall position; and the learning value thereof is stored in a back-up RAM. Thereafter, the shift range is changed over to an original target range. If a predetermined period (or a predetermined running number or a predetermined cumulative running distance) elapses from the previous learning of the L-range wall position, the L-range wall position is learnt by executing the L-range wall hitting control similar to the above and the play amount of the rotation transmission system is learnt, and the learning value thereof is stored in the back-up RAM to update it.
