The invention relates to a method for producing a food product that consists of individual bits of the product or whole fruit and that has a crispy or crunchy character. The invention also relates to a device fore drying products, especially suitable for use in the method according to the invention, and to a device for injecting high-power high-frequency radiation, especially microwaves, from an injection waveguide via an electromagnetically transparent but pressure-proof injection window into a partially evacuated treatment chamber. The method according to the invention comprises the following steps: predrying the product or the product bits by means of a convection drier and puffing and drying the product or product bits in a vacuum by dielectric energy dissipation in the product or in the product bits caused by electromagnetic high-frequency radiation.
