A piston type shock absorbing head rest is provided to prevent damage to a neck of a passenger and reduce the collision pressure on a head and the head rest by reducing separation of the head rest from a head of the passenger. A piston type shock absorbing head rest comprises a cylinder(c) wherein a filling material is filled, a piston(d), a sorption part(a), a supply hole(l), and a restoring device(e). The piston, embedded in the cylinder, has more than one flow-through hole(g) penetrating a front chamber and a rear chamber to maintain airtightness with an inner wall of the cylinder, and to divide the cylinder into the front chamber and the rear chamber. The sorption part is vertically connected with the piton through a connection shaft(b) while contacted with a head part of a passenger. The supply hole fills the filling material into the cylinder. The restoring device restores the thickness of the head rest which is reduced by compression of the piston to pre-operated thickness. |
