The element has a base body with a base surface for fixing the body at a teeth, and a recess for receiving an arch wire. A coating part is arranged in the recess and has outer sides turned away from each other. The outer sides rest on inner sides of the recess. A microscopic projection (45) is arranged at the inner sides of the recess to form a form-fit connection with the outer sides of the coating part, where the projection has a retention structure (44). The body is made of metal, and the coating part is made of thermoplastic plastic material i.e. polytetrafluroethylene. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a jaw orthopedic element for correcting a defective position of teeth.
