The device has a controller (1) for controlling the device. A pressure pipe (6) connects a pressure sleeve (2) with a sensor for detection of pressure signals (5). A pressure producing unit is arranged in the pressure pipe between the sensor and the sleeve. A clamping device is arranged between the pressure producing unit and the sleeve. The pressure pipe is closed between the pressure producing unit and the sleeve during the activation of the pressure producing unit such that a pressure signal is detected by the sensor during the operation of the pressure producing unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a blood pressure measuring device.
