PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing vitamin B<SB>12</SB>, by which the vitamin B<SB>12</SB>can simply and efficiently be produced, without having to especially require adjustment of a culture medium or to impose specific conditions. SOLUTION: This method for producing vitamin B<SB>12</SB>comprises culturing diatoms and a bacterium adhered thereto in a culture solution under culture conditions that comprises a first culture period by a light-dark cycle and a second culture period only by a dark condition, and then recovering the produced vitamin B<SB>12</SB>from the culture solution. The diatom is, preferably, at least one selected from the group consisting of Skeletonema costatum, Eucampia zodiacus and Asterionella glacialis. The bacteria adhered to the diatom are, preferably, at least one selected from among a group consisting of Methylophaga sp., Thiobacillus sp., Thiohalomonas sp., Bacteroidetes sp., Fluviicola sp., and Mucusbacterium sp.
