PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an operation force necessary for inserting a paper feed tray, and to secure positional accuracy of the paper feed tray. SOLUTION: As the paper feed tray 8 is in an extracted to stand by for installation, sheets are stacked in the paper feed tray, and the paper feed tray 8 is pushed in up to a prescribed position, in this invention, a retraction starting position just before a final set position, where a set detection sensor 44 is turned to turn on a solenoid 41, so that retraction action is started. Next, as the retraction action is maintained (in a lock state), an elevation motor is normally driven to rotate a drive shaft 85, and a bottom plate 81 is moved up by an eccentric rotation piece 86. When the bottom plate 81 rises till a paper surface detection sensor 89 detects the uppermost sheet surface of a sheet bundle stacked on the bottom plate 81, the elevation motor is stopped and the solenoid 41 is turned off to cancel the lock state, and start of supply paper action is waited.
