PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing water-soluble polyester capable of suppressing the hydrolysis of the polyester by deactivating the acid catalyst and removing excessive base after treatment and the product salt, in the production of a water-soluble polyester in which the post processing with a water-based solvent is difficult. SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method for producing a water-soluble polyester by the polycondensation reaction in the presence of the acid catalyst, wherein the method comprises a process of deactivating the acid catalyst by adding an amino-modified silicone after the polycondensation reaction.
