PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat forward and backward sliding device for a chair which is easily operated and can keep the stable position after adjustment. SOLUTION: The guide rails 13 are provided in a front and rear direction at the right and left sides of a support base 5 attached to the upper end of a leg post 4 of a chair 1. Mobile rails 20 arranged at the lower right and left sides of a seat 7 are attached to the guide rails 13 so as to be slidable forward and backward. Engagement parts 25 to be engaged are disposed at the outside 13e of the right and left guide rails along the longitudinal direction in a front and rear direction. A lever member 27 which is rotatable around an axis in the front and rear direction and has engagement parts 26 engaged with the engagement parts 25 to be engaged is attached to the right and left mobile rails. The right and left lever members 27 are elastically biased in the engagement direction of the engagement parts 26 with the engagement parts 25 to be engaged and rotated against the elastic bias.
