PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling device capable of efficiently cooling the heat generation device of the optical engine, while keeping silence. SOLUTION: The cooling device for a heat generation device 20 is equipped with a cooling substrate 21, which has a hollow circuit 22 and where a heat pipe part 23, is formed by enclosing actuation liquid in the hollow circuit 22. The cooling device is provided with a condensation part 27 at the upper part of the heat pipe part 23 and an evaporation part 28 at the lower part thereof respectively. The cooling substrate 21 is attached to the housing 3 so that the condensation part 27 of the heat pipe part 23 is positioned outside a housing 3, where the reflection type liquid crystal panels 14A, 14B and 14C of the optical engine are arranged, and the evaporation part 28 may be positioned inside the housing 3. The reflection-type liquid crystal panels 14A, 14B and 14C of the optical engine are thermally brought into contact with the evaporation part 28 of the heat pipe part 23 of the cooling substrate 21.
