PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyurethane elastic fiber having an excellent friction properties to metals and improved cloth qualities, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The polyurethane elastic fiber comprises 0.1-10 wt.% based on the polyurethane of hydrotalcite which is coated with 0.1-4.0 wt.% of a 10-30C fatty acid and has an average primary particle diameter of 0.3-2μm and a BET value of 5-15 m<SP>2</SP>/g and is represented by formula (1): M<SP>2+</SP><SB>x</SB>Al<SB>2</SB>(OH)<SB>2x+6-nz</SB>(A<SP>n-</SP>)<SB>z</SB>×mH<SB>2</SB>O and has a single filament fineness of 5-22 dtex and a total filament number of 1-50 filaments.
