PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for controlling combustion of a coke oven, with which an adjustment operation of a temperature distribution in line following the change from a low-running rate operation to a high-running rate operation of a coke oven is carried out without requiring the change of orifices. SOLUTION: When air and a fuel gas having flow rates adjusted by flow rate adjustment valves 1 and 2 are fed through under jet pipes 27a and 28a to an end flue, air and a fuel gas having flow rates adjusted by an orifice 29 are fed through under jet pipes 27b and 28b to an inside flue, the flow rates of air and a fuel gas fed to under jet pipes 27 and 28 are increased and the operation of the coke oven is changed to a high-running rate operation, the valve openings of the flow rate adjustment valves 1 and 2 are increased and the flow rates of the end flues are raised so as to obtain a temperature distribution in line in response to the high-running rate operation.
