PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crosslinked cation exchanger with sulfonic acid groups uniformly distributed on the surface and in the inside of the exchanger with a reduced density and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The crosslinked cation exchanger comprises a constitutional unit derived from a polymerizable monomer having a phenylene sulfonic acid group, a constitutional unit derived from a crosslinking monomer having at least two vinyl groups in the molecule, and a constitutional unit derived from a polymerizable monomer excluding an ion exchanging group or excluding a functional group forming a precursor for ion exchanging group, and these constitutional units are randomly distributed and contained in amounts of 0.1-40 mol%, 0.5-50 mol% and 10-99 mol% respectively.
