PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damper capable of improving ride quality in a vehicle by always exerting necessary and sufficient damping force. SOLUTION: This damper D1 is provided with: a vessel 1 having a liquid chamber L and a gas chamber G in its inside; a piston 3 inserted into the vessel 1 to partition off the liquid chamber L into two pressure chambers R1 and R2; and a rod 4 connected to the piston 3. The damper is characterized in that a partitioning member 5 partitioning off the gas chamber G into two rooms g1 and g2 is provided, and the respective rooms g1 and g2 are made to communicate with each other through a valve element 6.
