A gas valve comprises a main inlet 2, a main outlet 4, and a pilot outlet 5, an axial ly movable operating shaft 9 with a closure member 8 slidable thereon between stops 23 and 24, a solenoid with a shaft 10 abutting the shaft 9 at 18a, a further closure member 6 having an exten - sion 18 with a flange 17 slidable on the shafts 9 and 10 and biased to the closed position by a spring 7, a catch 14 tiltably mounted on the shaft 10 by a member 13, and an axially movable rod 16 for tilting the catch. In operation, the shaft 9 is manually depressed to first move the member 8 and close the main outlet 4, and then open the member 6 by engagement between the catch 14 and flange 17, Fig. 2 (not shown), to allow flow through the pilot outlet 5. Ignition of the pilot flame then causes the solenoid to be energized, to hold the member 6 open after the shaft 9 has been released, and the member 8 opened by a spring 22 to allow flow through the main outlet 4. To close the valve, rod 16 is depressed to tilt the member 13 and disengage the catch 14 from the flange 17 to allow the member 6 to be closed by the spring 7. The valve cannot be opened again until the solenoid de-energizes and the catch 4 returns to its upper position. The member 6 may be disengaged from the catch 14 by rotation of the member until a radial slot in the flange 17 lines up with the catch.</p> |
