A polyamide is stabilized by incorporating a manganous compound and an amide of phosphoric or a polyphosphoric acid. A hypophosphite may also be present. Manganous compounds specified include MnCl 2 . 0À01-0À02% may be used. Phosphorus compounds specified are hexamethylphosphoramide, an amido-polyphosphate, Ca(H 2 PO 2 ) 2 , Mg(H 2 PO 2 ) 2 , NaH 2 PO 2 and NH 4 H 2 PO 2 . They may be present in quantities such that 2-4 atoms of phosphorus are present per atom of manganese. In examples, #-caprolactam is polymerized in the presence of the stabilizers using adipic acid as initiator. The products are made into fibres. |
