PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contamination preventing device which, in underwater construction work, prevents the development of water contamination resulting from the spreading of mud etc. on the bottom of water out of a construction range without stretching a contamination preventive film. SOLUTION: The contamination preventing device includes a waterflow generating pipe 11 which has waterflow jet nozzles 13 formed longitudinally at given intervals and is kept positioned at a given depth under water with floats 12 and weights 15 to encircle a contamination development range 2, and a pump which takes in surrounding water to supply the waterflow generating pipe 11 with water. The pump is operated to jet waterflow F<SB>0</SB>at a given flow rate from the waterflow jet nozzles 13 toward the contamination development range 2 to cause convection vortexes in the contamination development range 2. The convection vortexes carry off contamination materials 3, 4 floating in water in the contamination development range 2, causing the contamination materials 3, 4 to settle down to deposit on the bottom of water near the contamination development range 2 to prevent the contamination materials 3, 4 from spreading.
