PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a rubber composition with an improved strength by effecting a crosslinking reaction of a rubber component and a filler having an unsaturated bond group using a radical substance, and to provide the resultant rubber composition. SOLUTION: In a preparation method of the rubber composition, a mixture containing the rubber component, a crosslinking agent, a filler having the unsaturated bond group and the radical substance satisfying relation (1): Tv-25°C≤Tm≤Tv+10°C (wherein Tm is a 1-minute half-life temperature of the radical substance; and Tv is a vulcanization temperature of the rubber component, the crosslinking agent and the filler having the unsaturated bond group in the presence of the radical substance) and relation (2): 100°C≤Th≤Tm-30°C (wherein Th is a 1-hour half-life temperature of the radical substance; and Tm is a 1-minute half-life temperature of the radical substance) is kneaded, and the reaction between the rubber component and the filler having the unsaturated bond group is carried out using the radical substance.
