PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a tape cutter adopting a simple and inexpensive structure and capable of sufficiently ensuring safety of a user relative to a cutting blade without impairing inherent convenience in the tape cutter for an adhesive tape or the like. SOLUTION: In the tape cutter, a tape retaining part for rotatably mounting a ring-like tape and a cutting part fixed with the cutting blade for horizontally cutting the drawn out tape are provided on a base seat. In the safety tape cutter with a protection unit, a flexible protection unit of a semi-circular cylindrical shape for safely covering the cutting blade and having elasticity is auxiliarily provided on the cutting part. When the tape is cut, the protection unit is downwardly lowered than the cutting blade by pressing force of the drawn out tape superior to the flexibility and elasticity possessed by the protection unit, the tape is cut by the cutting blade, and the protection unit is upwardly reset by the elasticity after the cutting.
