Prothesis for use in the interior of the fibrous ring between the intervertebral plates of the backbone of a patient as a replacement for the core of the lumbar disc, said prothesis formed by a hollow, expandible inter-somatic part, substantially prismatic in shape and made of shape-memory plastic material, with rounded lesser bases, opposite plane contact bases which in working position are in contact with the surface of the lumbar plates, and side bases equipped with a projecting portion and altered in the interior by a passage cavity; said prothesis including projections which emerge perpendicularly from the two contact surfaces, a row of transversal passage openings arranged perpendicularly on the two sides of the lateral faces, and a plurality of rows of longitudinal openings arranged perpendicularly on each of the two contact faces.
