HEMOGLOBIN MUTANT WITH INCREASED SOLUBLITY EXPRESSION AND/OR REDUCED NITRIC MONOXIDE SCAVENGING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new hemoglobin mutant having reduced nitric monoxide scavenging and working as an effective oxygen-carrying component.

SOLUTION: New recombinant hemoglobin mutants include concrete mutation or combination of mutations of an α globin disclosed in the specification wherein the globin has a reduced reaction rate with nitric monoxide and functionality working as the effective oxygen-carrying component. There is provided methods of increasing the solubility expression of recombinant hemoglobin by adding exogenous hemin in molar excess of the heme binding sites of recombinant hemoglobin.
