<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin surface light source element characterized by thinness compared with a conventional element, to provide a manufacturing method of a member for the surface light source element, and also to provide a liquid crystal display apparatus using this element. <P>SOLUTION: (a) In the surface light source element 10 comprising the element member in which at least one light emitting means and a light guide are integrated, and comprising a light source which is for making light to enter the side of the light guide 11; a light emitting means is an outgoing light control plate 14 in which a plurality of projections having an apex situated on the same surface and having a light reflecting function are formed in a face opposing the light guide; and the light guide 11 is a film and designed to have larger area than the outgoing light control plate. (b) The manufacturing method of the member for the thin surface light source element is such that the surface light source element is laminated with a film for the light guide and a film for the outgoing light control plate, with the laminate cut at a prescribed position and half cut, and with the film for the outgoing light control plate partly removed based on the half cut position.
