The parlor i.e. milking stand (1), has a handling device including a teat cup (8) for handling a teat. The handling device is brought to a working position that is arranged above a base surface, and to a resting position that is arranged below the base surface. A rotating device is pivotable around an axis of rotation (D) that is arranged at a distance from the base surface. The rotating device is arranged below the base surface. The rotating device includes a closing segment (14, 14a) that closes an opening in the resting position. An independent claim is also included for a method for milking animals.
