PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer inexpensively which can suitably prevent printing interruption due to an ink end. SOLUTION: The printer is equipped with a cartridge holding part 12, valves 302a and 302b, a printing head 18, ink supply courses 16-1a and 16-1b, a valve 304, and a valve control part 402. In the case of carrying out printing by using ink cartridges of ink of different colors from each other as ink cartridges 104a and 104b, the valve 304 is closed, and the valve control part 402 opens both of the valves 302a and 302b. In the case of carrying out printing by using ink cartridges of ink of the same color as the ink cartridges 104a and 104b, the valve 304 is opened, and the valve control part 402 opens one of the valves 302a and 302b.
