PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polycyclic condensed compound having eight or more rings by a simpler method and to obtain a polycyclic condensed compound obtained the production method. SOLUTION: The condensed ring compound has a structure represented by general formula (1A) [wherein X is a carbon atom- or hetero atom-containing group; Y is an electron withdrawing group; R<SB>1</SB>s are each independently hydrogen or a 1-20C alkyl group; ring A is any of an eight-membered ring to ten-membered ring; and n is an integer of 0-5 when the ring A is an eight-membered ring, an integer of 0-6 when the ring A is a nine-membered ring or an integer of 0-7 when the ring A is a ten-membered ring].
