Disclosed is a polymer-treating agent which comprises an ionic liquid represented by the formula (1) and an aprotic solvent (e.g., DMSO) and takes a liquid form at 30°C. The polymer-treating agent takes a liquid form at around room temperature and has a low viscosity, and is therefore excellent in handling properties. (1) wherein R<SUP>1</SUP> to R<SUP>3</SUP> independently represent an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having 3 to 5 carbon atoms, or an alkoxyalkyl group represented by the formula: R<SUP>4</SUP>-O-(CH<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>n</SUB>-; R<SUP>4</SUP> represents a methyl group or an ethyl group; n represents a number of 1 or 2; and Y represents a halide ion, a carboxylate ion having 1 to 3 carbon atoms in total, a perchlorate ion, a pseudo-halide ion, a cyanamide ion or a dicyanamide ion.
