The method involves detecting a vehicle environment, and evaluating the environment with respect to an accident situation. A sensor is provided for displacement determination of a vehicle. A displacement determination of the vehicle to an object is measured, and a displacement value is justified with information determined using another sensor in another vehicle with respect to the object. The information is transferred from the latter vehicle to the former vehicle.
