PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing position synchronization signal generation method for a beam scanner, by which the writing position synchronization signals of respective laser beams are surely generated, even when a semiconductor laser having a large number of light-emitting parts arranged in one line with a narrow pitch is used. SOLUTION: Among a lot of the laser beams deflected and scanned with a deflector (7), detection laser beams (B1, B5, B9, B13 and B17) which are detected with a beam detector (11) and non-detection laser beams which are not detected with the beam detector are present, the detection laser beams are arranged for every predetermined number of beams; the writing position synchronization signals corresponding to the detection laser beams are generated, on the basis of the detection of the detection laser beams detected with the beam detector and the writing position synchronization signals, corresponding to the non-detection laser beams are calculated, by equally dividing the writing position synchronization signals generated on the basis of the detection of the detection laser beams.
