<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with complication and cost increase of a system necessary for satisfactorily burning particulate matter collected by diesel particulate filters. <P>SOLUTION: In a multi-cylinder diesel engine 1, the diesel particulate filters 3 are internally provided on an extension 2a where a side end of a cylinder 2 is extended outward.
