The interlock unit (10) has a gear shifting mechanism arranged at a shifting shaft (12) and comprising a shift finger (14) co-operating with shift rails (28). The gear shifting mechanism has a display geometry, and a spacer sensor (20) e.g. capacitive sensor, for directly determining a position of one of the shift rails is arranged at the gear shifting mechanism. The spacer sensor is arranged at the shift finger and provided at right angle to the shift finger radial to the shifting shaft.
