The method involves providing a person or an object with a marking that is attachable or removable in an easy manner. The marking is detected by a detector. A set of detectors is arranged in a multi-dimensional arrangement field. The arrangement field is evaluated by electronics that determines and outputs the position of the marking within the arrangement field in a fixed manner. The position of the marking and the marked person or the object is determined within the arrangement field. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining position of a person and an object.
