Provided are a linear member (11) having high tensile strength and excellent extendibility, contractility, bendbility, and restorability, a method of producing the linear member, and a personal ornament using the linear member (11). The linear member (11) is formed by helically winding a base body (12) in which wires (11) formed of a superelastic shape memory alloy are arranged. A space (13) is provided inside the linear member (11), and gaps (S1) are formed in the longitudinal direction of the linear member (11). The linear member (11) can be extended in the longitudinal direction until there are no gaps (S1) in the linear member (11) by increasing the tilt angle of the helix and reducing the outer diameter (D1) of the linear member (11).
