<p>A saw comprising a moveable fence (620) mounted on a base assembly (102;104) against which a work piece can be held whilst it is being cut which can slide across the base assembly (102,104) towards or away from a motor unit (118) wherein there is provided a locking mechanism (622,630) by which the position of the moveable fence (620) can be locked or controlled relative to the base assembly (102;104) whereby the locking mechanism (622;630) comprises a first mode of operation where the moveable fence (620) can slide between a first position, located away from the motor unit (118) and a second position, closer to the motor unit (118), and a second mode of operation where the moveable fence (620) can slide from the first position, through the second position, to a third position where it is closer to the motor unit (118) that the second position.
Furthermore a saw is provided comprising a fixed fence (600) mounted on a base assembly (102;104) against which a work piece can be held whilst it is being cut wherein the fixed fence (600) terminates at a substantially vertical edge (612) where it does not interfere with pivotal movement of a motor unit (118) or saw blade (120) in use whereby there is provided an extension (614) at the base of the edge (612) which extends towards a position on the line of travel of the cutting blade (120) as the motor unit (118) pivoting towards the base assembly (102;104) to provide support behind the part of the work piece being cut by the saw blade.</p> |
