A gas turbine engine comprises an electrically heated hot air chamber 1 for heating air. Ideally the air is heated once it has been compressed by the compressor. The hot air chamber preferably comprises banks of electrically heated elements 5 mounted in parallel, and which span the length of the chamber 1. The resistance heaters expand the air in the chamber causing it to drive the turbine, which in turn drives the compressor. Air is able to flow through the chamber from the front to the rear. Air-flow powered alternators may provide the electricity required to sustain the electrical heating system, and are ideally located between the compressor and the heating chamber. The hot air chamber could is preferably made from heat retaining material. The spool transmission shafts may be located through a tunnel 6 in the chamber. Allegedly, no fossil fuel is required by the engine. |
