An aircraft passenger seat cushion includes a crushable, energy-absorbing layer 124, a main cushioning foam layer 126, a smaller ishial insert foam layer 128 which may be of the same material as the main cushioning material and a semi-dynamic pneumatic cell 120 which uses a dual action breather valve 122 to vary its inflation with changes in cabin pressure. The seat cushion may be finished with a covering of cloth or upholstery. Alternatively, the semi-pneumatic cell may be placed above the cushioning elements within the covering. A combination of the cushioning materials and the ischial insert bears the passenger load when the aircraft cabin is not pressurised. The semi-dynamic pneumatic cell self-inflates when the aircraft cabin is pressurised and bears the passenger load during flight. |
