A backlight unit for a display device such as an LCD includes: a frame 150; a circuit board 134 extending from an end of and on a first surface of the frame 150; lamps 124, such as cold cathode fluorescent lamps, over the frame 150; an inverter 170, preferably positioned on a second surface of the frame 150, connected to an end of each of the lamps 124 via a first hole 332 through the frame 150; and balancing elements on the circuit board 134 for balancing a current through each of the lamps 124. The balancing elements may comprise capacitors and may each be connected to one of a plurality of sockets 132 on the circuit board 134, which are attached to the lamps 124. A reflector 122 may be placed on the frame 150, under the lamps 124, and a cover 180 may be provided for shielding the inverter 170. |
