Method and system for computed tomography using transmission and fluorescence measurements

A computed tomography system (100, 200) and method for imaging a sample (104) is described. The system typically comprises an X-ray radiation source (102) for irradiating the sample (104) with an X-ray beam, an image detection means (106) for detecting a portion of the X-ray beam transmitted through the sample (104) as to obtain a computed tomography image of an internal structure of the sample (104) and an X-ray fluorescence detection means (108) for obtaining a chemical characteristic of said internal structure of the sample (104). The invention also relates to processing of combined fluorescence and transmitted X-ray signals to obtain a computed tomography image and a chemical characteristic of the internal structure of the sample (104).
