APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING/RECEIVING PREAMBLE SIGNAL AND ESTIMATING A CHANNEL IN AN ORTHOGONAL FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING COMMUNICATION SYSTEM USING A MULTIPLE INPUT MULTIPLE OUTPUT SCHEME

An apparatus and a method for transceiving a preamble signal and estimating a channel in an OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) communication system using an MIMO(Multi Input Multi Output) scheme are provided to perform channel estimation using an LMS(Least Mean Square) scheme, thereby showing performance similar to performance in an MMSE(Minimum Mean-Square Error) scheme and reducing the complexity of operation. A receiving unit #1(213-1) receives and processes a signal received from a receiving antenna #1(211-1) and outputs the processed signal to a channel estimation unit(215) and an FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) unit #1(217-1). A receiving unit #NR(213-NR) receives and processes a signal received from a receiving antenna #NR(211-NR) and outputs the processed signal to the channel estimation unit and an FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) unit #NR(217-NR). The channel estimation unit receives the signals outputted from each of the receiving unit #1 and the receiving unit# NR and estimates a channel in a temporal region between a signal transmitter and a signal receiver, and outputs a temporal region estimated channel matrix to an FFT unit(219). Each of the FFT unit #1 and the IFFT unit #NR receives a signal outputted from the corresponding receiving unit, performs the FFT operation of the signal, and outputs the FFT signal to a decoding unit(221). The FFT unit receives the temporal region estimated channel matrix outputted from the channel estimation unit, performs the FFT operation of the temporal region estimated channel matrix, and outputs the FFT-operated temporal region estimated channel matrix to the decoding unit. The decoding unit receives the signals outputted from each of the FFT unit #1 and the FFT unit #NR and restores the received signals with a preamble signal which the signal transmitter transmits.
