An image forming device and a data transfer method thereof are provided to enable a user to transfer data to a destination without making the user input destination information separately by scanning and recognizing destination from a document. A scanning unit(120) scans a document including transferred information and destination information of the transferred information. An OCR(Optical Character Recognition) unit(130) recognizes characters optically from an image obtained by scanning the document to recognize the destination information. A destination information detector(140) detects the destination information from the recognized characters. A controller(190) enables a transfer unit(170) to transfer the transferred information to the destination according to a result of the destination information detector. The controller displays the destination information on a display unit(117) when a plurality of destinations are read from the document.
