A system and a method for guiding a route based on traffic information and a mobile communication terminal for the same are provided to efficiently offer road and traffic information to mobile communication subscribers by differentiating transmission cycles of main road information and other road information. A mobile communication terminal(100) includes a wireless transceiver unit(110), a route data storage unit(120), a broadcast receiving unit(150), and a route optimizing unit(180). The wireless transceiver unit is connected to a route guide service server. The route data storage unit stores map data about an initial route calculated by the route guide service server, route guide data, and links included in the initial route and bypass link number information on each link. The broadcast receiving unit receives broadcast data including travel time for each link, the map data, and the route guide data. The route optimizing unit extracts the broadcast data about bypass links of the links included in the initial route, compares the travel time information of the links included in the initial route with those of the bypass links, and updates the map data and the route guide data of the bypass links based on the broadcast data in case the travel time of the bypass links is short.
