A side air bag apparatus is provided to lessen injury of an occupant by allowing expansion gas to preferentially flow to a main part. A side air bag apparatus comprises an inflator for generating deployment gas in case of a vehicle collision, a cushion, and a restriction member disposed on the cushion. The cushion is deployed to the outside of a seat by receiving deployment gas having high pressure. The restriction member forms restriction-expansion areas(61,63) by expanding one side of the cushion less than expansion areas(51,53,55) of the cushion. The restriction-expansion areas are spaced apart from each other in upper/lower directions.
