A device and a method for controlling a controller are provided to prevent unnecessary power consumption by blocking a PATA(Parallel-Advanced Technology Attachment) bridge chip with hardware when the PATA bridge is not used. A detecting unit detects connection of a PATA disk drive(200) and is a signal line for indicating the connection of the PATA disk drive. A PATA controller(204) controls the PATA disk drive. A reset signal generator(202) generates a reset signal depending on the connection of the PATA disk drive. A controller(206) enables the PATA controller to control operation of the PATA disk drive or disables the PATA disk drive with hardware depending on the reset signal. The PATA controller is a bridge chip for conversion into a USB(Universal Serial Bus) interface recognizable to a system. The reset signal generator includes at least one transistor and gate.
